Crazy to think that the last time I visited Liberty Science Center was for the adults-only theme night back in January 2020, right before the world shut down and life as we know it completely changed! However, we have been going a little stir crazy at home and with kid-friendly winter activities being limited, I decided to give it give it a try. LSC is a hands-on, interactive science museum located in Jersey City, NJ. I was nervous to see how our experience would be with the new Covid safety measures in place, but I was not disappointed. They repurposed some of the hands-on activities to more “Covid-friendly” ones. I was really impressed with the accessibility of the hands free sanitizing stations literally everywhere in the facility, near the the exits/ entrances and sprinkled throughout all the exhibits. Everyone did a great job of wearing their masks (even kids) and the staff members were great about speaking to anyone that didn’t have their face masks on properly.
The new Daniel the Tiger exhibit was a bit of a wait, so we didn’t check it out. But it was tucked away and not visible from the main area, so Jonas didn’t notice we skipped it altogether. He really enjoyed the new DC Superheroes exhibit, as did I! I thought it was fun and well done, even for people like me that are not really into the whole genre. The entire toddler sensory area was closed off, so if you’re planning to go with a 1-2 year old, I’d say skip it for the time being as there isn’t much for the little ones to do right now. However, my preschooler was engaged and enjoyed all the exhibits that were open, even the ones he didn’t quite understand. We couldn’t get tickets to the Planetarium show (sold out) because they social distance in the theatre as well and tickets are limited, understandably. With all that being said, I highly recommend it if anyone is on the fence. It was a nice way to spend the cold, winter afternoon! And boy, did we need a change of scenery! Here’s Jonas rocking out to at the Dance Party in the main hall!
