Like many things this year, Easter turned out to be different than in years past. It was the first major holiday during this quarantine period. And although the stay-at-home order confined us to our home, that didn’t mean we couldn’t still enjoy the spirit of the day. Thanks to curbside pickup at most retailers and a few goodies I had stored up in the attic from prior years (i.e. plastics eggs, basket, ribbon, shredded paper filling, etc…), I was able to put together a sweet little celebration for my boy, complete with baskets and a fun Easter egg hunt in our yard. We even managed to pay my mom “Belita” (short for “Abuelita”, the Spanish word for Grandma) a visit from the comfort of our cars, as well as eat our Easter dinner with Nana, Papa and the entire family via Zoom from each of our respective homes. It was nice to spend the holiday at home and create some new traditions of our own, while still keeping some old ones. Life is not what we’re accustomed to at the moment, but there’s still so much to be thankful for, including this period of rest and reflection.
